Improvement Projects to be Completed in Logansport Parks
March 3, 2025 at 3:05 p.m.

The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department has several improvement projects taking place this spring and summer that may affect the public’s use of the parks. Here is a list with a tentative schedule of the projects that will be taking place:
• Spencer Park Improvements include:
- Demolition of storage barn and #2 shelter – these have been completed!
- Construct a new storage barn along the east road during April/May/June
- Replacement of the “ship” playground with new structures for both 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds – scheduled to be completed in August.
- Replace a water line through the middle of Spencer Park, date to be announced (TBA)
- Upgraded lighting will be installed. Date TBA
- Repave the roads and parking lots. Date TBA
• Iron Horse Park:
- Completion of the addition of electricity and lighting – taking place currently.
- Installation of new bubbler splashpad, and additional concrete in the center of the park. Date TBA.
• Heritage Park is being prepared for the construction of the new farmers market pavilion and incubator kitchen. The Heritage Park Fountain, benches, trash cans, and memorial markers are to be removed for the upcoming construction slated to begin in April. The Heritage Park Fountain needs to be serviced, so it may be awhile before it is relocated to a new site, which has not been determined.
• Fairview Park Restrooms are being rehabilitated. The restroom which was originally built in 2005 will be totally remodeled with new stools and urinals, hand dryers, sinks, and partitions. Exterior and interior walls will have been painted, and new lights have been installed. This restroom should be ready for opening day of baseball season at the Crain, Metz, and Steinman Fields.
• Huston Park will soon have a new Prairie Restoration Area on the southeast corner of the park. It was originally opened up to accommodate security cameras, but a meadow with warm season grasses and wildflowers will be extremely attractive. This is a project that will take 3-5 years to be fully established. This year’s work involves applying herbicides before seed can be planted in 2026.
• The Penman Building roof will be replaced. Date TBA.
