Public Invited to Ribbon Cutting for Restored Eel River Shelter at Spencer Park
April 4, 2025 at 5:24 p.m.

The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department will be holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the lower pavilion at Spencer Park. It will take place on Thursday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m. In addition, the new public access site at Spencer Park will be dedicated. The public is welcome to attend this special event.
This project was paid for by the City of Logansport.
During the spring and summer of 2023, the public was very vocal about saving and restoring this shelter that sits on the Eel River, citing its historical value to the residents and the City of Logansport, and the architectural value of the structure. After several months, and 2 different public surveys, the Parks Board requested funding from the City Council, who ultimately approved the project. The project was then completed by the general contractor, KJG Architecture of West Lafayette IN, Steinberger Construction & Shepler Construction of Logansport, and MRK Design of Flora IN.
In addition, the public access site, otherwise known as the Eel River Canoe/Kayak Launch at Spencer Park will also be dedicated. This ramp has been in very poor condition for a number of years. It was the focus of “My Community-My Vision” a group of Logansport High School Students who determined that we need to provide improved locations for canoeing and kayaking in the Wabash and Eel Rivers. Thanks to their vision, funds were provided to make the necessary improvements.
This ribbon cutting ceremony is an opportunity to recognize and thank all those people and organizations for making this special picnic shelter possible.
