The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department (LPRD) Board of Directors is proud to announce a formal partnership with the Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation (LMHF) and Logansport Memorial Hospital (LMH) to provide the National Fitness Campaign’s (NFC) outdoor Fitness Court at Riverside Park.

The Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation and Logansport Memorial Hospital have agreed to contribute $10,000 each year from 2021 through 2025 to support the operations of the NFC Fitness Court. As the trusted community healthcare partner for Logansport and Cass County, leadership from both the hospital and its Foundation believe the outdoor Fitness Court® is an important resource that will support long-term health and wellness goals throughout the community. LPRD will include LMHF & LMH as a key partner in all promotions of the NFC Fitness Court.

Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation Board President Scott Kraud said, “The addition of this NFC Fitness Court to our existing parks system will provide an innovative new resource for physical activity and recreation in our community. When we decided to pledge the hospital Foundation’s financial support to this project, we believed that this Fitness Court may also attract individuals and families from other neighboring communities, because of its unique offering and strategically placed location at Riverside Park. Hopefully, some of our other exceptional amenities like the Dentzel Carousel and River Bluff Trail can also be used and enjoyed by those from outside our community, as they explore what we are fortunate to have right here at home.”

Logansport Memorial Hospital President and CEO Perry Gay said, “By investing in state-of-the-art outdoor fitness opportunities like the NFC Fitness Court, and working together with community partners like the Logansport Parks and Recreation Department, we will build a healthier and more active community. This aligns well with our hospital goals of ‘Building Better Health’ for the patients and residents of all ages that we serve in across Logansport, Cass County, and the north central Indiana region.”

With the funds provided by the Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation and Logansport Memorial Hospital, the Logansport Parks & Recreation Department will offer the NFC Fitness Court as a free resource to the community to support active lifestyles and healthy living. Events, competitions, and physical training opportunities will all be a part of the planned programming for the NFC outdoor Fitness Court.

Logansport Parks and Recreation Director Janet Fawley also shared, “We are so grateful that the Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation and Logansport Memorial Hospital were willing to partner with us on such an exciting project for our community. We are always looking to work with other community organizations that believe in our vision of improving the health and quality of life for our Cass County residents, through parks and recreation offerings. This NFC Fitness Court is another free, healthy recreational asset that we anticipate will be utilized in a variety of ways for years to come.”

The National Fitness Campaign’s Fitness Court is the centerpiece to its holistic health and wellness initiative. The Fitness Court is an outdoor bodyweight circuit training center with functional fitness DNA. The best-in-class system provides a full-body workout to adults of all ability levels. With seven functional fitness zones, the Fitness Court can be used in thousands of ways. A free app available for download on Apple and Android devices will also provide various workouts and ideas for how to use the Fitness Court to meet your personal health and fitness goals. The NFC Fitness Court is the world’s best outdoor gym and the first of its kind in the surrounding area.

The NFC Fitness Court is scheduled to be installed in conjunction with other Riverside Park enhancements that include two high school-sized basketball courts and two pickle ball courts. Additional parking, sidewalks and a renovation of the exterior family restroom on the McHale Complex are also included. This construction is scheduled to take place in the late summer or early fall of 2021, as weather and time permit. This project is also being funded in part by $250,000 from the Land & Water Conservation Fund, $125,000 from the City of Logansport CEDIT Funds, and $125,000 from the City of Logansport TIF Funds.
